In Minimal Vandalism, shot in an installation by Kay Walkowiak at Generali Foundation in Vienna, a skateboarder (Kilian Martin) approaches the art works to subject the sculptures to a test of endurance, or skill. He relentlessly includes the objects in his acrobatics, gliding up onto them, sliding across their surfaces, and daringly jumping over them. The reverberating soundtrack breaks the impression of silence emanating from the minimal sculptures. After each ‘trick,’ close-ups show the damage caused to the works: bizarre scratches, skid marks, or spiky metal burs. The camera moves through space several times, along the frosted glass ceiling and the streaked magnesite stone floor, always returning to the actual focus of the show — the art pieces.
