The exhibition “Here and Now III. Vienna Sculpture 2024” concludes a trilogy of exhibitions focusing on artists living in Vienna who work in the field of sculpture and object art. It provides an insight into the quality and diversity of the Viennese sculpture scene in recent years and explores the variety of this medium with the different artistic approaches represented in it. The exhibition series “Here and Now” unites different generations of artists and sculpture concepts. “Here and Now III” was also conceived together with the artists for the spaces of the former St. Marx cardealership, which also gives the works new perspectives and readings through the new contextualization.

The artists use a wide variety of materials, from steel to wax, fabric, papier-mâché, wood and LED screens, and constantly explore the potential of sculpture in new ways. The variety of works ranges from
abstract metal constructions to filigree spatial constructions, figurative sculptures and objects floating in space. The artists are interested in exploring space, dimension, form and material, the phenomenon of sculpture as well as gender issues, social and political debates and individual phenomena of memory and remembrance. The works of the participating artists not only demonstrate the range of what sculpture is and can be today, they also invite a debate on the theory and practice of contemporary sculpture. As a result, the project will also be documented in a volume of works, thus creating a standard work on the status and quality of sculptural creation in Vienna.
